The article “Teenage girl kills herself 'after Instagram poll' in Malaysia ” written by Jamie Fullerton is devoted to the discussion of the urgent problem of disastrous impact of the Internet and social media on teenagers. When people were creating social media they had a single aim - to entertain the user, to make him happier, to make his conversation more colourful and much easier. But sometimes people start misusing the tools they were given. They start using them against themselves and even the whole mankind. The author gives us an example of such a misuse of an social media app Instagram that influenced on a person's life in a tragic way. First, the author draws our attention to the situation in the whole. He says that a girl posted a poll with a questioner in Instagram. But that was an unusual and crucial one: she wanted her subscribers to vote for LIFE or DEATH to help her with the further decision. Then he gives an analyses of the investigation of this case. Then he says that the lawyer decided to find the guilty people. Than he started talking about more global problems connected with this incident. He shows other people's attitude to this case. One of them says that the reason which caused such a situation is that in Malaysia the level of mental health is extremely low. Jamie Fullerton also emphasizes that a couple years ago there was a similar incident in London. Further, the auhor puts the Ching Yee Wong's suggestion that people should be more attentive to any strange things happening in social media. Finally, if people notice something suspicious they should immediately call to services, connected with mental problems.

I have chosen this article because I think that suicide problem becomes more and more often.

  1. Melissa,

your summary is well-written from the point of view of its content and organisation. One point to remember is that in English the dash is used differently from Russian, so the following sentence "When people were creating social media they had a single aim - to entertain the user" is incorrect: the dash is not necessary.
