IATEFL Conference

Several minutes age I have watched a session, which is called "Job applications in 2030: Do students have the right skills?" From this talk I have learned some fresh and interesting information.
The speakers of this lecture are Tim Goodier and Mike Mayor.
First of all, I paid attention to the research results connected with the importance of English language  nowadays. The scheme was about the priorities of requirements to the employee when he applies for a job. To say honest, it was quite surprising for me to find out that English language skills are put on the second place after relevant skillset. I thought that nowadays in most of the countries English is not so important to be put on the second place. It is my personal opinion.
The next thing I was surprised with was the prediction that in the 65% of today's 12-year-olds will do jobs that do not exist yet. For example, they can perform a job of drone operator or zoombo instructor.
Also it was said that employer will continue to need employees who have high level English skills, including for specific tasks, such as negotiations, solving logistical problems, or presenting a new strategy. Moreover, working adult learners will want flexible, personalized, purpose specific and time efficient learning.
I find this session interesting because I enjoy watching discussions of topics connected with plans for the future or with the role of English language in our world. I'd like to learn more facts about today's situation concerning future jobs, and the involvement of English language in it.
I recommend everyone to watch this session, because fresh information is always a nice thing to find out about! I hope that you like this topic as well as me.
